Good Songs by Good Friends

Few things get my creative juices flowing like a good song! Fortunately, I have a few good friends who play music on a level that I can only dream about…and being in their company on a few happenstance evenings this last month I thought it would be fun to capture some of their badassery.   …be sure to set the video quality to HD, it looks so much better!

This song is by my friend, Emily Carlson, and sung by her and another friend Jamie Lester. It’s called Harley’s Song, and it’s one of my favorite song’s I’ve ever heard.

“Music touches us emotionally, where words alone can’t.”
Johnny Depp

Sitting around the campfire in the hills of West Virginia, my friend Jamie pulls out his guitar…and so I pull out my instrument, and together we made a little art.

“Music has always been a matter of Energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed Fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio.”
Hunter S. Thompson

In preparation for the Morgantown Arts Walk back in October, Jamie and I decided to have our own little Art Night to help get a few new pieces ready for display….. watch it in HD btw…the paintings look much better. The song is a cover of Mad World, sung by Jamie Lester.

Prior to this video, I hadn’t really done anything with sound before.  Inspired by a adventure videography clinic I took back in September (taught by Andrew Kornylak), I picked up a Nikon’s ME-1 mic, and took it out for a test at the local pub. It was really cool to be able to toy with during Jam Night, like being able to pick out my friend Vince‘s banjo playing among all the instruments…Check it out!
