Go outside
Go outside…but bring your camera!
There was a post by Humans of New York a few years ago that recycled and hit my feed last week. I found it rather inspiring, and it’s a good mantra to be extrapolated toward photography in general.
Here’s the quoted post:
“Mary is 93 years old. We spoke for less than two minutes. After I took her photo, she said:
“If you force yourself to go outside, something wonderful always happens!”
New life motto…
Last weekend I didn’t know what to do, but I wanted to do something fun. And, it was this quote that got me rolling out the door! We ended deciding on a whim to head to Canaan Valley and cross country ski at White Grass. By happen stance, White Grass was having a Hash Ski! …similar to a Hash Run, but on cross country skis.
The distractions that hares leave for hounds…
While we hounds ended up losing the trail after almost catching the hares, there was still a great celebration after the hunt.
Ever heard of a Shotski! This crafty creation was made by a local WV artist, Max Yax.
The day was intense, amazingly fun, and a great experience that I would have never had without stepping outside (let alone being able to photograph it).
Next time when you’re about to sit on the couch to watch a TV show, movie, sports game (which is watching other people having fun), or a video game (one of my vices)…remember Mary’s quote! Here’s a link to the original post from Humans of New York.
And, here’s a link to some more of my photos from the Hash Ski at White Grass last Sunday (1-11-15).
I hope to see you all outside!
